Read your solar agreement like the people who wrote it

You don't need a law degree to spot the parts that matter. Here's the short version we walk homeowners through before anything else happens.

Four terms worth finding today

Escalator

A clause that raises your payment every year, often 2.9% to 3.9%. Over 25 years it can push the payment well past the utility bill it was meant to replace.

UCC-1 / fixture filing

A notice filed against your property tied to the equipment. It can surface at closing or refinance and stall the whole transaction until it is released.

Production guarantee

A promise about how much power the system will make. Check how it's measured, who reports it, and what you actually receive if it falls short.

Right to cancel

In Texas, a written cancellation notice belongs in your hand at the time of signing. Whether you received one is a documented fact, not an opinion.

What to gather before you call

Bring what you have. Missing pieces are normal and we can often track them down — but the more of this you keep, the stronger the record.

  • The signed agreement and every attachment or addendum
  • The savings or production proposal you were shown
  • Texts and emails with the salesperson
  • Utility bills for the twelve months before and after install
  • Any recording, doorbell video, or notes from the sales visit
  • Loan statements and the lender's name
